Job Description
This is an entry level position with opportunity for growth. However, if you are a technician with more experience than what is listed, please do apply as we are always looking for talent!
As a Technician Trainee, you may be asked to do the following and will be supervised to ensure your work is correct and up to our standards:
- Fabricating and assembling structural and functional components of refrigeration systems, while using hand tools, power tools, and welding/brazing equipment.
- Lifting and aligning components using hoist or block and tackle, mechanical lifts like crank ups, hydraulic lifts, genie lifts etc.as required.
- Drilling holes and installing mounting brackets and hangers as needed to mount equipment.
- Insulating shells, cabinets and refrigeration lines of systems.
- Brazing or soldering parts to repair defective joints and leaks.
- Observing and testing system operation, using gauges and instruments including pressure gauges, vacuum gauges, multi-meter and temperature meters.
- Testing refrigeration lines, components, and connections for leaks
- Dismantling malfunctioning systems and testing components, using electrical, mechanical, equipment as required.
- Adjusting or replacing worn or defective mechanisms and parts and reassembling repaired systems.
- Reading blueprints and schematics to determine location, size, capacity and type of components needed to build or retrofit refrigeration systems.
- Installing wiring to connect components to an electric power source.
- Performing mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming to EPA standards.
- Cutting, bending, threading, and connecting pipes to functional components for water, power, or refrigeration systems.
- Servicing, repairing, adjusting and testing machines devices, moving parts and equipment.
- Using hands and arms as well as needed lifting devices for moving, handling, installing and moving equipment and parts.
- Monitoring and reviewing information from materials to detect or assess problems.
- Visiting hospitals, laboratories and industrial plants to repair, service or maintain equipment.
- Servicing, repairing, calibrating, and other fine tuning of industrial freezers.
- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
Responsibilities
- Provide periodic reports to management including accumulations of customer reports, trend analyses, and suggestions for improvement.
- Review technical literature to maintain knowledge of equipment, practices and procedures.
- Provide on-site installations and customer training.
- Provide written reports to office and customers for each job.
- Maintain and clean shop and trucks including sweeping, vacuuming and emptying trash receptacles.
- Delivering and picking up stand-alone refrigerators and freezers.
- Assisting senior technicians in repairs and installations.
- Maintaining tools such as vacuum pumps, gauges, hoses etc.
Requirements and Skills
- Graduation from HVAC/R school or hands on experience in refrigeration or air conditioning for 1 year.
- EPA Certification.
- Basic software skills and computer literacy.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated and effective team player.
- Physical requirement includes the ability to lift 50lbs.
- Physical requirement includes the ability to push or pull more than 100lbs.
- Physical requirements include the ability to drive/sit for long periods of time (80% of the day could be traveling).
- Physical requirement includes the ability to stand for long periods of time and may include standing on ladders.
- Willingness to adapt to current situations and surroundings.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- Willingness to take direction from senior technicians.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of proper blocking, bracing and loading techniques
- Bilingual (Vietnamese, Spanish, Chinese, Filipino)
- Familiarity with laboratories and hospitals
- Located near Huntington Beach, CA
- Familiarity with working for a service company (even if not HVAC/R related)
- Welding/ Brazing experience
- Electrical wiring/troubleshooting experience
